Everton winger Yannick Bolasie faces a climb to reach consistent first-team football at Goodison Park. The D.R. Congo international was left out of the eighteen in the club’s 2-2 Premier League draw with Wolves.

Via the Daily Star, Everton winger Yannick Bolasie remains a target of Steve Bruce’s, among a host of other names. Bolasie had been a rumored to go to Championship rivals Middlesbrough on Deadline Day, but a deal never materialized.

Bolasie, 29, is out-of-favor in manager Marco Silva’s rotation. A £25 million signing just two summers ago, Bolasie seriously damaged knee ligaments in December 2016. A year of recovery saw the D.R. Congo international score once in 17 total appearances one season later.

Now, Everton have seemingly passed Bolasie by, with new signing Richarlison holding down an attack spot. Add in Cenk Tosun, Theo Walcott, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Ademola Lookman, Bernard and Oumar Niasse, there is seemingly too much competition for consistent match time.

More from Claret Villans

Aston Villa have been in the market for another forward or two and Bolasie seemingly fits that bill. The problem, however, might come down to wages as Bolasie’s previous big-money move could price Villa out unless Everton subsidize.

Villa should be content with their wing options in André Green, Albert Adomah and Ahmed Elmohamady.

But depth, however, remains a concern. It’s unclear if Bolasie maintains that lightning-fast, spark plug pace he had at his peak. Team speed, in particular, is something this current Aston Villa squad could use. Villa don’t necessarily *need* a striker or *need* a winger, but an instant source of energy from the bench would come in handy. A player capable of filling-in anywhere across a front three, or behind a central striker is ideal, in my opinion.

It’s debatable if Yannick Bolasie is the best option, but it makes sense why Steve Bruce is inquiring on the player.
