Aston Villa would receive approximately £4 million in Adama Traore transfer

Former Aston Villa winger Adama Traore is helping his former club, years after leaving Birmingham.
Middlesbrough winger Adama Traore is closing-in on a move back to the Premier League with Wolverhampton Wanderers. Months after putting up historic dribbling numbers in England’s second division, the 22-year old Spaniard is being eyed in a ~£18 million move.
And here’s the kicker: Aston Villa inserted a sell-on fee when Dr. Tony Xia shipped him to Boro two summers ago.
For all the Financial Fair Play worries, it’s good to hear a piece of news that benefits Aston Villa. A paltry sum to Villa’s new owners, but an important transaction to the club’s books for regulatory reasons. Receiving a variable fee for Traore’s transfer won’t entirely fix FFP sanctions, but it is a hell of a lot better than not receiving a fee. In all, a good bit of business from the now-minority Aston Villa owner Xia in recognizing Traore’s sky-high ceiling.
Of course, a deal is not yet completed, but expect the player to leave Middlesbrough by the beginning of Premier League action. If the deal with Wolves falls through, perhaps another suitor will follow-up with a transfer.
Contract details are notoriously difficult to sift through for accurate information, but Traore’s deal looks like the only noteworthy sell-on clause Villa have. At least, in terms of former players likely to leave clubs once more. Steve Bruce and NSWE have been quiet in terms of incoming and outgoing transfers, but expect more rumors by the time Villa face their final pre-season friendly opponent – Dynamo Dresden on Saturday.
