Per BirminghamLive, Aston Villa Football Club owner Dr. Tony Xia is considering a takeover bid from a Middle East-based business group.

With another “cash crisis” sweeping English headlines, (Villa need £9 million by the end of July), Dr. Tony Xia is feeling the heat as Aston Villa owner. Entering his 25th month as controlling party, Xia might not be the man in charge for much longer as the Chinese billionaire enters investment talks.

The group has yet to be revealed, at least at the time of this writing. We can’t yet determine what the terms are, but it’s safe to say Xia is seriously considering the offer. After turning down previous bidders, Xia is in the United Kingdom to hold takeover talks.

It might be the case where we have a new Aston Villa owner by weekend’s end:

Villa Verdict:

I think it’s fair to say there is a defined consensus among Villa faithful: we want a new owner. One who perhaps does not wastefully spend to the point penalization. Or perhaps one that does not unilaterally fire all executives, leaving a barebones backroom staff. Xia’s reign has seen a sharp turnaround in terms of football performance, albeit at the second division level. But the fact remains, results were not good enough for promotion in either season.

Now the killer spending of Xia’s first two transfer windows are haunting the claret and blue. This will be the third consecutive transfer window in which Villa spend next-to-nothing, but it is not enough to hide from near-administration, tightening Financial Fair Play restrictions, and vulture clubs circling the club’s stars.
