Madness! The final week of the season brought out an insane level of craziness across England’s second tier. Aston Villa closed out with a 1-0 defeat to Millwall.

It is now official:

Champions Wolverhampton Wanderers will be joined by Cardiff City in the Premier League next season. An outright smacking of Fulham at the hands of Birmingham City ensure the Cottagers finish third, with Villa right behind in 4th. In two hours, Aston Villa’s semi-finals opponent switched a total of four times. Middlesbrough began as the day’s opponents before Derby scored a pair to move-up into fifth. Stewart Downing equalized against Ipswich, then the Tractor Boys, via Martyn Waghorn, suddenly stole all three points.

But ‘Boro had the last laugh through Patrick Bamford.

Villa vs. Milwall ratings:

MARK BUNN. 7.5. Solid reads coming off his line. Mark Bunn only conceded a penalty (and saved another) in his first bit of senior team action in 17 months.. GK. Aston Villa

JAMES BREE. 5.5. Really good mobility up and down the flank, but Bree was a little soft in defense. Has a very good chance at being on the bench in the play-offs as the reserve fullback.. RB. Aston Villa

10.0. James Chester played every minute of all 46 Championship matches this season. For that, a ten rating. Warrior.. RCB. Aston Villa. JAMES CHESTER

MILE JEDINAK. 5.5. Two fouls conceded, but Jedi won ten headers. Made a mess of the penalty, though.. LCB. Aston Villa

6.0. Solid showing from Alan Hutton. Wasn’t tremendous or anything, but the Scottish Roberto Carlos must be up for defending Stewart Downing and Adama Traore next Saturday.. LB. Aston Villa. ALAN HUTTON

CDM. Aston Villa. HENRI LANSBURY. 4.5. WhoScored liked his game, but I thought Lansbury was pretty darn poor as the holding midfielder. Conceded the scoring penalty.

CM/LM. Aston Villa. JOSH ONOMAH. 6.0. Onomah had a solid last league showing for Aston Villa. Two shots on target from three attempts. He held down the left side really well after Villa switched to a 4-4-1-1 after the break.

CAM. Aston Villa. CONOR HOURIHANE. 6.0. Hourihane completed 93% of his passes and had two shots fired straight at Millwall ‘keeper Jordan Archer. A little quiet, otherwise. Aston Villa need a monstrous performance from the Republic of Ireland international next week.

RW. Aston Villa. ALBERT ADOMAH. 5.5. Three key passes from Albert Adomah, but he too, was very quiet.

5.5. No goals to show for, but Jonathan Kodjia looked dangerous as a roaming attacker. I don’t think he’ll start in the play-offs, but he could be Aston Villa’s first attacking substitute.. LW/ST. Aston Villa. JONATHAN KODJIA

4.0. Anonymous. Though, to be fair, his teammates missed some good runs of his.. ST. Aston Villa. SCOTT HOGAN
