Aston Villa suffered a final blow in their chase for second place.

Villa’s 3-1 defeat at Carrow Road was the final blow for the club’s chances at an automatic promotion spot back to the Premier League. With five matches remaining, the playoffs await, and likely, a 4th-place finish. To that end, Steve Bruce and company now must work towards recovery and fitness in these final 3-4 weeks.

But before we do that, let us take a look at player ratings from the loss to Norwich City.

GK. Aston Villa. SAM JOHNSTONE. 4.0. Three goals conceded from Big Sam, but none were particularly his fault. However, the final Norwich tally began from an errant goal kick. His distribution continues to hinder Villa possession.

Aston Villa. AHMED ELMOHAMADY. 4.5. Josh Murphy was in and around the action all afternoon and Ahmed Elmohamady was tasked with stopping the young Norwich City winger. He did ‘okay’ on WhoScored with a team-high 91 touches and 85% passing accuracy, but the Egyptian’s performance was hard on the eyes.. RB

5.5. Seven aerial duels won for the Wales international, which led the team. Passed the ball with usual high efficiency, but again, three goals conceded.. RCB. Aston Villa. JAMES CHESTER

5.0. A moment of worry as John Terry took a studs-showing tackle from Mario Vrancic, but the Aston Villa captain fought through. Hobbled around for the next sixty minutes, struggling a bit.. LCB. Aston Villa. JOHN TERRY

LB. Aston Villa. NEIL TAYLOR. 2.0. Just watch a match replay if you need justification for this rating.
