Aston Villa thrashed league leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers at Villa Park. Adomah, Chester, Grabban, and Bjarnason all got on the score-sheet in the 4-1 victory.

Villa’s statement victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers was truly incredible. Words cannot rightfully speak to the performance from Steve Bruce’s men. So, enjoy these player grades instead.

Aston Villa closed the gap between third and first to 7 points, on a day in which Cardiff City and Fulham won as well. With ten matches to play, the claret and blues sit 4 points from the bluebirds for automatic promotion.

7.5. 3 saves from a possible four shots on target. Sam Johnstone enjoyed a solid day controlling his own penalty box. Wolves’ lone goal was a bit fluky and a product of good attacking movement (with a nutmeg to boot).. GK. Aston Villa. SAM JOHNSTONE

Aston Villa. AHMED ELMOHAMADY. 7.0. Elmo made three clearances and one successful tackle. Diogo Jota, perhaps the Championship’s best player, was a threat on the left. Still, the Villa right back did very well all things considered.. RB

JAMES CHESTER. 9.0. James Chester is a BALLER, but you already knew that. Scored the winner, and nearly scored a second as well. 4 interceptions, 5 clearances, one blocked shot. Gets downgraded from a ten for the poor sliding clearance that led to Jota’s finish.. RCB. Aston Villa

7.5. John Terry’s peel-back on Wolves’ floated, far post header was textbook defending.. LCB. Aston Villa. JOHN TERRY

7.5. Nutmeg aside, Neil Taylor was really solid on the afternoon. The Wales international made four total tackles with a key pass and 80% passing accuracy. Pretty good at dealing with Ivan Cavaleiro, all things considered.. LB. Aston Villa. NEIL TAYLOR

7.5. The Socceroos skipper was strong in the tackle department Saturday. Mile Jedinak kept the Villa engine running.. CDM. Aston Villa. MILE JEDINAK

Aston Villa. ROBERT SNODGRASS. 9.0. Robert Snodgrass was tremendous in nearly every facet, but I’m going to highlight his sublime set piece delivery. Aston Villa’s first came as a result of a Snoddy corner. The second? A beautifully lofted free kick to James Chester for the assist.. RM

8.5. Gareth Southgate, put this man on the plane to Russia.. CM. Aston Villa. JACK GREALISH

Aston Villa. CONOR HOURIHANE. 7.0. Taken off for Henri Lansbury in the 80th-minute, who deserved a good run out with the team. Hourihane was a midfield metronome for Aston Villa. His interception led to Birkir Bjarnason’s closing strike.. CM

5 tackles, a goal, and an assist. A complete performance from a complete winger. Albert Adomah is enjoying the season of his career. Withdrawn for Bjarnason on the 74th-minute.. LM. Aston Villa. ALBERT ADOMAH. 9.0

8.5. Make that four in four, for Lewis Grabban! Got the start over Scott Hogan and did the dirty work for Aston Villa in a quiet, contested first-half. One goal and one assist for the former Sunderland striker. Withdrawn for Hogan on the 85th.. CF. Aston Villa. LEWIS GRABBAN

Statistics provided by WhoScored match center. In retrospect, everyone deserves a ten. Aston Villa go again on Tuesday against Queens Park Rangers in the rescheduled Villa Park clash.
