Out-of-contract, June 2019:

GK – Jed Steer

CB/RB – Micah Richards

RB – Ritchie De Laet

DM – Mile Jedinak

DM – Jordan Lyden

DM – Glenn Whelan

LW – André Green

CAM – Callum O’Hare

A new contract for André Green should be a critical piece of business this coming summer. Regardless of league, Green has an important role with Aston Villa moving forward. At 19, he is arguably the most talented of Villa’s attacking quartet of teenagers (Happy Birthday, Keinan Davis, who turned 20 a few days past).

Jed Steer is coming off a second consecutive season ruined by surgery, but he’s proven to be reliable as a number two ‘keeper. Well, reliable in the sense that he is quite good when fit. Mile Jedinak will return, too, probably in a reduced role in the Premier League. Lyden is a huge question mark after another injury-riddled season. He needs match time with a possible loan in the cards. Glenn Whelan is useful depth in either league. I do not foresee a plethora of clubs calling to take Whelan off of Aston Villa’s hands.

Micah Richards’ contract could not expire fast enough.
