Aston Villa: Brighton and Hove Albion to table Keinan Davis bid
By Josh Tonti
For the second time in three months, a Premier League side is linked to Aston Villa striker Keinan Davis. Davis, 19, is attracting interest from Brighton & Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton, who’s prepared to launch a bid this month.
Brighton & Hove Albion are preparing a £3 million bid for Keinan Davis this transfer window. The Seagulls, currently 12th in England’s top flight, look to bolster an attack that has scored a meager 17 goals in 22 Premier League matches – good for 3rd-worst.
Brighton manager Chris Hughton has been tracking Davis’ progress for the last few months. He is hoping to tempt Davis with promises of immediate first-team football. Brighton’s current forward situation includes the veteran Glenn Murray, 30-year old Tomer Hemed, and the on-loan Izzy Brown from Chelsea FC.
In the same report, The Sun suggests Bournemouth are interested in Davis as well. Coupled with previous reports that Arsenal and Manchester United were ready to bid £5 million, Keinan Davis is quite the hot commodity in England.
Davis’ Aston Villa season thus far is pleasing. Though his three goals and one assist across 22 matches in all competitions is less than ideal, it’s the underlying promise that leaves supporters, and the club, excited for the future.
More from Claret Villans
- Aston Villa dismiss Everton for first win of Premier League season
- Tyrone Mings injured in Aston Villa’s season-opening 5-1 defeat
- Aston Villa draw Hibernian or FC Luzern for Europa Conference League play-off

The striker’s hold-up play is outstanding for someone of such a tender footballing age.
Davis benefited playing alongside Jonathan Kodjia before the Ivorian suffered the recurrence of a major ankle injury. Since, Davis has been relied upon as a sole target-forward, allowing midfield runners Jack Grealish, Josh Onomah, Albert Adomah and Robert Snodgrass to get in attacking positions.
Villa Verdict:
Obviously Aston Villa will not accept a £3 million bid. For one, Davis recently re-upped on a deal that keeps him contracted to the claret and blue until 2020. Secondly, and much more importantly, Keinan Davis has a big part to play in Villa’s promotion push these last 20 Championship league matches.
The contrasting strengths and styles of Davis to Scott Hogan allows Villa manager Steve Bruce to mix play styles to the opponent.
So, what are Keinan Davis’ services worth on the open market? As always, it’s whatever another club is willing to pay. But, £7-10 with a considerable sell-on clause seems reasonable if Villa were in a selling mood. I don’t expect Villa to make many transfer sales, if any at all. However, a half-dozen youngsters or so could depart on six-month loan terms.
