We took a look back at 2017 for Aston Villa Football Club. The arduous year had not been what supporters nor executive staff hoped for in terms of style or results. We outline three story-lines to follow closely in 2018.

The dawn of a new year is a time for reflection. But more importantly, it offers the chance to usher in change, adapted lifestyle, and other nuances. For Aston Villa, there remains, as always, a lot to play for in 2018.

First and foremost, the fight for promotion is paramount. Everything else matters little when faced with the opportunity to return to the Premier League, and the promise of new media revenues. It will take a horrendous display of mismanagement for Villa, the most expensive second division squad ever assembled, to not finish 3rd through 6th, thus missing out on playoffs.

However, there are other competitions too. Aston Villa begin FA Cup play in January, entering in the third-round against Peterborough. The summer hopefully offers renewed finances from the riches of England’s top flight. Lastly, the EFL Cup commences in August.
