Cash-strapped, tightening Financial Fair Play restrictions, loads of dead money on the books. It is not exactly the most ideal transfer situation, but it is one Aston Villa Football Club must deal with. Can Villa offload some fringe players to fund new January acquisitions?

Club owner Dr. Tony Xia, manager Steve Bruce, and chief executive Keith Wyness walk a tight line on acquiring reinforcements for the continued promotion push. How much in net spend does the club have to offer?

It is likely well under £5 million, before outgoing transfers, akin to the summer window. Therefore, Bruce and company need to work the loan market successfully. Sam Johnstone, Josh Onomah, and Robert Snodgrass represented terrific, cost-effective business. Perhaps a loan or two, and 1-2 additional signings is all Aston Villa can afford.

To make the plan work, let us take a look at who Villa can offload to free some capital.

Beginning with a forgotten central midfielder, and continuing with fringe players perhaps in need of a change in scenery.
