28-year old center forward Libor Kozak, who left Aston Villa in the summer, joins Serie B side, FC Bari. The former Czech Republic international looks to revitalize his career after injury derailment.

There was once upon a time where Libor Kozak was a very promising center-forward. Before his move to Aston Villa in the summer of 2013, Kozak was bagging goals at the Serie A level for Lazio.

But even more impressively, Kozak tore the Europa League apart during the 2012/2013 season. Kozak’s eight goals in Europe led the tournament as Lazio made a run to the quarter-finals. His 6’4″ frame gave defenders nightmares due to his physicality.

Under the leadership of ex-manager Paul Lambert, Kozak arrived at Villa Park in a £7 million switch. At the time, he was to compete with Christian Benteke for the forward’s role. Unfortunately for all parties, Kozak suffered a horrific leg break a few months later in January.

A training ground collision with Ciaran Clark left Kozak out of action for nearly two years. When he returned, all was different at Aston Villa. New managers came and went, as well as style of play, and eventually, the deterioration of the club itself under owner Randy Lerner.

Kozak ended his affiliation with Villa this summer. Both parties agreed to terminate the contract in order for Kozak to find regular football. He ended his time with the claret and blue with four goals in 22 total appearances.

In Italy, Kozak will have the chance to compete for promotion with Bari. The club currently resides in third-place after winning their opening match last weekend.
