The Carabao Cup is another opportunity for youngsters to receive senior playing time. Against Wigan in the second-round, Aston Villa recorded a 4-1 victory with a trio of Aston Villa debuts. 18-year old Mitchell Clark debuted at an unfamiliar left back position, and showed well. Likewise, Jake Doyle Hayes, also 18, dominated the center of the pitch with veteran Gary Gardner. Moreover, Easah Suliman made his long-awaited debut, coming in as a second half substitute.
Callum O’Hare, Jed Steer, and others will get another chance to proceed in the tournament. Currently, 32 clubs remain with the 7 Premier League members competing in Europe entering this round. Bristol Rovers and Doncaster Rovers represent the only clubs not associated with either the Premier League or EFL Championship.
