For the second consecutive season, Aston Villa attacking midfielder, Carles Gil, joins Spanish side Deportivo La Coruña on loan. Gil’s long been linked with Deportivo, but financial issues pushed this move into the second week of July.

In a weird turn of events, Carles Gil is rejoining Deportivo on loan – not a permanent move, as previously believed.

Well, this certainly wasn’t ideal. It can be assumed Deportivo couldn’t afford Villa’s valuation of a few million pounds. His market must have been limited to a few half-interested La Liga sides, and Deportivo.

More from Claret Villans

Aston Villa shed his wages and open a tad more room into the squad. However, the claret and blues still have not made a permanent outgoing transfer outside of Carlos Sanchez. The fallout of Jordan Amavi’s “failed” medical at Sevilla cut £6.5 million away from potential incoming deals.

The club, under tightening FFP regulations, have made only £2 million (the sale of Carlos Sanchez to Fiorentina).

The Positives:

Steve Bruce sheds one player off the wage bill, who he had little interest in using. Should Gil perform really well (He scored once with four assists in 23 La Liga matches last season), Aston Villa could see a large value appreciation next summer. Carles Gil’s contract expires in the summer of 2019. Dr. Tony stated on his Twitter account that there is an “obligation to buy” in the agreement.

The Negatives:

Well, Villa don’t really benefit in the short or long-term as is currently. Dr. Tony Xia receives zero funds for new acquisitions. Glenn Whelan, Ahmed Elmohamady, others will have to wait.

If there’s one piece of good news…
