Aston Villa face an important week of huge upcoming decisions. John Terry, Sam Johnstone, and several outbound players could make moves before the weekend. Steve Bruce’s first team is due for a slight tune-up.

Aston Villa rejected a £5.3 million bid from Sevilla for the services of left back/winger Jordan Amavi. Dr. Tony Xia and team are looking for a price slightly closer to the £9 million Randy Lerner paid for Amavi in the summer of 2015.

Sevilla join Nice, Marseille, Liverpool, Atletico Madrid and others with passing interest in the Frenchman.

More from Claret Villans

Elsewhere, Aston Villa is expecting final decisions from both Sam Johnstone and John Terry this week.

Johnstone is deciding between Watford, Leeds United, and a few other clubs. Aston Villa should expect and deeply hope Johnstone chooses the claret and blue after a successful loan spell.

Otherwise, Villa will need to find a new number one goalkeeper, which may prove difficult.

Ex-Chelsea captain John Terry should make a decision sometime in the near future, too. Villa need clarity on whether central defense is a position in need of strengthening. John Terry’s decision could impact the futures of Tommy Elphick and Micah Richards. Likewise, any move for Marc Roberts or Aden Flint are put on hold until Terry chooses from his collection of offers.

Glenn Whelan, however, may not make a move to Aston Villa after all. Derby County lost star central midfielder Will Hughes to the clutches of the Premier League. Watford sealed the signing with an £8 million sum to The Rams (which quite honestly is a coup for the 22-year old – hard to imagine why other PL clubs didn’t jump all over that). To replace Hughes, Derby are looking for Stoke’s Glenn Whelan to bridge the gap in the promotion chase.

Next: No movement for Villa fringe players thus far

A busy, trying week lies ahead.
