33-goal striker Tom Boere will not join Aston Villa this summer. Instead, the FC Oss forward is moving to FC Twente of Holland’s Eredivisie.
Tom Boere lit up Holland’s second division to the tune of 33 league goals in 38 league matches last season. Boere, 24, now has the chance to prove himself within the Dutch top flight. Is he a flash-in-the-pan? A late bloomer? Or a serious future Netherlands international?
Whatever he is, he won’t be doing it at Aston Villa. The links of Boere to Villa were interesting given the anonymity of the Dutch Eerste Divisie (second tier). With Jonathan Kodjia, Scott Hogan, Ross McCormack, Rushian Hepburn-Murphy, Gabby Agbonlahor, and Rushian Hepburn-Murphy on the books, a place for any new striker is limited.
Especially for one who is under six feet like the aforementioned Boere. Though undoubtedly lethal, Boere does not fill the role Villa lost when Rudy Gestede was sold to Middlesbrough.
As we covered before, the easiest remedy to more goals is simply Ross McCormack finding form. Well, before he finds renewed form he must apologize to Steve Bruce and get in shape, but you get the idea.
Boere is highly sought-after in the Netherlands so a movement to Aston Villa was always unlikely.
With Boere off the board, attention turns to John Terry, who is still biding time. Likewise, a move for another left back seems inevitable with Jordan Amavi transfer listed. Both Amari’i Bell and Josh Tymon saw their names linked in the papers.
Moreover, a move for at least one attacking player in the form of a number ten or winger seems likely. Ghana’s Mubarak Wakaso was the latest player linked. Likewise, a defensive midfielder to compete with Mile Jedinak is paramount.
