GK – Andre Blake, 26, Philadelphia Union
Major League Soccer’s 2016 Goalkeeper of the Year could man the Aston Villa number on shirt. Blake, the former number one overall pick of the 2014 MLS SuperDraft, cemented himself as the league’s best ‘keeper after a few years of development.
More from Claret Villans
- Aston Villa dismiss Everton for first win of Premier League season
- Tyrone Mings injured in Aston Villa’s season-opening 5-1 defeat
- Aston Villa draw Hibernian or FC Luzern for Europa Conference League play-off
- Aston Villa sign winger Moussa Diaby from Bayer Leverkusen

His 6’4″ figure adequately covers the net from post to post. Blake is the starter for the Jamaican National Team which faces a heavy summer. The Reggae Boyz face Curaçao, Mexico, and El Salvador in group stage play beginning July 9th.
Should Sam Johnstone choose to play elsewhere, Blake remains an interesting goalkeeping gamble, at least in theory.
There is no question he has the talent to play in England, but his career aspirations are unknown. Coupled with a mystery valuation from MLS in general, Blake may be a lifelong starter in the United States.
After all, it far closer to his native home of May Pen, Jamaica.
