Leicester City attacker Tom Lawrence spent the season away on-loan at Ipswich Town. Under Mick McCarthy, Lawrence scored nine goals with nine assists in 34 league appearances.

Lawrence is a perfect fit at Aston Villa as the 23-year old’s peak seasons are just ahead of him. Furthermore, he’s capable of playing everywhere in the attacking third. Lawrence played in a strike partnership, as a number ten, and a left winger at Ipswich Town.

As a full Wales international, Tom Lawrence’s market value approaches £4-5 million. The questions remains, does Leicester City still have interest in the player?

Adding a new striker to the mix is 50/50 at this point. Prices for goal scorers drastically inflate compared to actual production. If Ross McCormack is back and fit, a new forward isn’t exactly needed to mitigate Jonathan Kodjia’s injury layoff. Moreover, Steve Bruce will have Keinan Davis and Rushian Hepburn-Murphy to call upon.

What is needed, however, is another dedicated defensive midfielder. Vurnon Anita of Newcastle is on Rafa Benitez’s peripheral entering the Premier League. He’s 28, probably available for the right place, incredible versatile, and experienced.

For £5 million, Vurnon Anita seems like the right player to compete alongside Mile Jedinak. Aston Villa could also go a far younger route for this position.

So there we have it. Six players in with a net spend of -£4.5 million.
