Jordan Amavi switched sporting agencies on Thursday. It’s probably time for Aston Villa supporters to say goodbye to the energetic fullback.

Jordan Amavi’s Bodymoor Heath future remains in limbo. Beaten out by incoming left back Neil Taylor relegated the twenty-three year old to the bench.

Principal Villa owner, Dr. Tony Xia, reportedly turned down big money offers from Liverpool and Marseille, both in the summer and January transfer windows. Some reports claim the clubs offered upwards of £25 million for the Frenchman’s services.

Let’s get beyond the point of £25 million for Amavi. That’s an otherworldly sum for a fullback in today’s market. There are maybe ten left backs in the entire world that could command that sort of transfer fee. This is the Ricardo Rodriguez’s, Jordi Alba’s, Benjamin Mendy’s of football.

Jordan Amavi, in his current state, is not of that quality. He was beaten out at Aston Villa by Neil Taylor, who couldn’t find playing time at Swansea City in the Premier League. However, Amavi’s skill-set at 23 breaths upside.

Before an unfortunate cruciate injury in October of 2015, Amavi was taking the Premier League by storm.

His buccaneering runs earmarked him for future service into the French National Team.

Unfortunately, one knee injury and another left back later, and Amavi remains on the peripheral of manager Steve Bruce’s plans. The drop-off in club performance between when Taylor and Amavi were starting was extremely evident.

If Steve Bruce is not a long-term believer in Jordan, the club would do well to sell the defender/winger.

His current value is somewhere in the £15 million range. Presumably, half of Ligue 1 would be interested in bringing the player back to the premier French division.

It’s probably time for Aston Villa supporters to say goodbye to Jordan Amavi. One has to think Dr. Xia and company can re-invest the transfer proceeds towards a younger left back; providing Neil Taylor with quality, healthy competition.
