All is notoriously quiet on Steve Bruce’s end. Who is joining and who is leaving this January transfer window for Aston Villa Football Club?

Aly Cissokho left Aston Villa for Greek side Olympiakos on a half season loan with an option to buy: In the same press report, Villa confirm Pierluigi Gollini left on an eighteen month loan to Atalanta.

With Cissokho gone, Aston Villa have one senior left back remaining in Jordan Amavi. The next man up for left back should Amavi be unable to play could either be Leandro Bacuna or Riccardo Calder, who has yet to make his senior team debut.

Aston Villa likely free up some of their wage budget by moving Cissokho. It was evident the Frenchman was never going to play when Amavi reached full match fitness about three months ago.

Jonathan Kodjia started for the Ivory Coast in their opening AFCON group match against Togo. Kodjia and the Golden Elephants had innumerable chances, but were left goalless in a 0-0 draw.

In related AFCON news, Jordan Ayew starts for Ghana in their opening match against Uganda.

Nottingham Forest’s ownership continues to be in-flux. Henri Lansbury would be well under his way to Villa Park if the club could ever reach Forest’s ownership. The two parties already agreed to personal terms.

The everlasting Jordan Rhodes saga took another turn. Sky Bet priced Villa’s odds at landing Rhodes to 1/5. Rhodes could be on the move with Middlesbrough purchasing Rudy Gestede to complement Álvaro Negredo.

Boro manager Aitor Karanka is also keen on bringing striker Patrick Bamford back in order to make Rhodes disposable.

If Steve Bruce is interested in Rhodes, it might cost Villa close to the £10 million Boro bought Rhodes for last January.

Aston Villa host Preston North End on Saturday in the club’s next league match.
