As expected, Jordan Amavi will not be suiting up for Aston Villa in the upcoming Championship season. Aston Villa have agreed to a sale of the French left back with Spanish side, Sevilla.

After two weeks of negotiation and at least one rejected bid, Aston Villa agreed to terms with Sevilla for the services of left back/winger Jordan Amavi.

Amavi, 23, will reportedly move to Sevilla for a maximum of £8 million. TalkSport has the figure at £6 million up front with a further £1.75 million as bonus payments/incentive structure. Amavi originally moved to Villa in the summer of 2015 for £9 million from OGC Nice.

This move comes mere months after club owner Tony Xia had this to say on the following sale:

To be quite honest, Aston Villa never received a £25 million offer for Jordan Amavi. There are maybe five left backs in the world that could command that sum. Amavi, in his current form, is not one of those left backs, at least yet.

However, his potential is still through the roof following a major knee injury.

The clubs inquiring about the Frenchman remain a testament to that: Liverpool, Napoli, Marseille, Atletico Madrid, Sevilla, etc.

In the meantime, Aston Villa collect a sizeable transfer sum for a player expected to be second-choice left back – albeit, at a loss from two years ago.

Wales international Neil Taylor becomes the only recognized left back in the squad; a position that should be reinforced before the end of the summer window.

Fleetwood Town’s Amari’i Bell and Hull City’s Josh Tymon are two players previously linked with a move to Aston Villa.

Jordan Amavi will always be a “what if?” scenario for Aston Villa. What if he never got injured for France on under-21 duty? Would the club still be in the Premier League if other events went their way?

Could Amavi have actually commanded £25 million or more in the transfer market?

We’ll never know, but at Sevilla Amavi has the chance to play for one of Spain’s top clubs. Sevilla finished 4th last season; therefore, they will participate in the UEFA Champions League, a big test for Jordan.
