Aston Villa Football Club enjoy a much-needed break from football. The international break offers several key claret and blue players the chance to recover from injuries.

After five clean sheets in six matches and twenty days, Aston Villa finally enjoy some much needed time off before the home stretch. The claret and blue entrenched themselves in the top-half of the table with eight matches remaining.

With fifty-one points from thirty-eight league matches, the club sits a firm eleven points away from sixth place (currently held by Sheffield Wednesday on sixty-two). Should Villa win out, that would add twenty-four points to the club’s fifty-one – probably not enough to surpass any of the playoff teams barring a catastrophic collapse. However, stranger things have happened in the world of football.

The remaining schedule looks like this with the opponent’s current place in the table in parentheses:

More from Claret Villans

Norwich City, home (8)

QPR, home (15)

Burton Albion, away (21)

Reading, home (5)

Fulham, away (7)

Birmingham City, home (18)

Blackburn, away (22)

Essentially, the next three matches will reveal whether the club has something to play for against Reading. Anything short of seven (realistically nine) points and the matches against Reading and Fulham become far less intriguing.

The international break allows several key players to rest their injuries. Scott Hogan and Jack Grealish recently returned to the bench against Wigan. A full ten days of training will bring them back up to speed.

The same applies to Henri Lansbury, who is dealing with an achilles injury. Nathan Baker should be close to training, as are Rushian Hepburn-Murphy, André Green, and Gabby Agbonlahor.
