Brentford FC pummel disjointed Aston Villa
By Josh Tonti
Aston Villa lost at Griffin Park on Tuesday. Subsequently, Steve Bruce’s men have only picked-up two points from their last five league match.
Aston Villa started out hot against Brentford FC. Just hours before the match, Sky Sports confirmed the claret and blue stole Brentford star forward Scott Hogan in he neighborhood of £9 million.
Kodjia nearly opened the match with a 1-on-1 & Birkir Bjarnason fired one straight at Daniel Bentley. Everything was looking up.
That was until Lasse Vibe opened the scoring with a darting run past James Chester. The midfield turned the ball over, James Chester incorrectly stepped-up, Nathan Baker stood like a statue, Alan Hutton kept him onside, and Sam Johnstone took a horrendous angle to the ball. Everything was definitely not looking up.
Brentford then scored two more and could have scored as many as six in total. Here are our Aston Villa player grades:
Surrendered two poor goals out the total three conceded. Is Johnstone that much of an improvement over Gollini? Time will tell; unfortunately Villa do not have time.
James Bree is nineteen years old and he is assuredly better than Alan Hutton right now. Results will not change until Hutton is replaced.
Uncharacteristically poor performance from the captain. James Chester reunites with his Wales teammate Neil Taylor, after Villa and Swansea agreed to a swap + cash deal involving Jordan Ayew.
The better central defender on the evening. Baker was a menace on corners where he nearly put one in contending with a Brentford defender. Won five aerial duels in total.
Another woeful appearance in which Amavi completed just 62.1% of his passes. Neil Taylor arrives to bring much needed competition.
Thrust into a slightly unfamiliar role with Mile Jedinak injured and Ashley Westwood sold. Lansbury should have tallied an assist on Kodjia streaming run inside ten minutes. Otherwise, we saw some of the bad parts of Lansbury: completed 68% of his passes and induced a number of rash challenges.
Positive debut from Bjarnason even if he ran out of stamina at the end. The Iceland international nearly scored on a one-timer.
Booked in the second half, but largely anonymous despite a large number of touches. Hourihane will do just fine in a Villa shirt.
André Green may only be 18, but he was a menace on the left flank despite mixed play from Jordan Amavi. Green completed 85% of his passes.
Whole lot of ‘meh from Adomah. Did not play well at all.
Should have finished his early attempt; perhaps that would have changed the course of the match. Otherwise, Kodjia was fairly menacing for most of the match.
On to the next one.
